NI 34 - Mobile Phone Users to have much Tougher Penalties - 3 STRIKES AND OUT

Post date: 03-Feb-2016 15:10:16

There are new proposals from the Department of Transport to increase penalties for illegal use of mobile phones when driving.

Due to the high number of accidents caused by distracted motorists the government is looking at increasing the fixed penalty notice from £100 to £150 plus increasing the points given from 3 to 4 points. HGV DRIVERS WILL RECEIVE 6 POINTS IF CAUGHT IN THE ACT.

There are currently 399 UK drivers with three mobile phone offences on their driving record.

This one point increase means that if you commit this offence 3 times, instead of current 4, and you will be disqualified.
